Sparking an interest in reading and writing goes a long way for kids because it teaches them the importance of books in general, all kinds- academic books story books, and so on. Parents and teachers often encourage students of all ages to read. It is an important objective in the Enterprise Resource Planning(ERP Full Form) of every educational institution. Getting students to read their textbooks solves most of the problems.

Parents and teachers can guide children on how they can read a book to not only understand the concept or story but also to comprehend and learn to use the concepts. To carry on a smooth process of teaching students, educators need to concentrate on the 4 important elements of reading. This includes keeping students engaged, valuing their fluency, increase their word recognition capacity and the ability of a child to comprehend information.

Here are some smart ways of achieving the 4 objectives, motivating students to read more books;

Wide range of options

Just like a library or a bookstore has a variety of genres for people to choose their books from students should also be given the option. Most institute ERPs categorize the types of books available to various grades in a library. Understandably, some books are not meant for juniors to read, not because of explicit context, but because of their lack of emotional intelligence at that age.

One great solution is to have separate sections of books available to all kids where every genre is included. Some students might be interested in picture books, others in cookbooks and graphic novels. The availability of variety will encourage students more to pick one book from every genre and keep doing this till they have developed a stronghold on their vocabulary and comprehension skills. Kids are inquisitive by nature and they love the ‘how to’ books.

Through multiple options teachers and parents can support the interests of their children and the academic value it brings to them. remember that your students will read books from the options you provide them. Make a choice carefully including a variety of motivational self, improvement, and moral value-related books.

Set an example

Children tend to copy their parents and habits. Similarly, they will also imitate the actions of a teacher in the classroom. This is why audio and visual tools are often used in a school learning environment to promote the educational process of these students. The teacher has to set an example to the students that why loving books will bring them joy.

Teachers can read books out loud in a classroom and show them picture books so that they can imagine the scenarios. Exhibiting the innate love for books will make the children also want to love them because they would also like to experience a similar joy.

Technological means

The correct use of technological means is facilitating everything these days. Educational institutions use a school learning management system or LMS to carry out classes and sharing of resources by uploading assignments. Technological means can also help students to be more interested in reading by making the e-library available.

Smart class is another technological advantage of educational institutions because while using a smart class teachers can access any book in the world with the help of the Internet. Sometimes the students have bizarre preferences which the school library might not have in its list of options for them to read. A smart class can also be used to show videos for a visual representation of the stories their children like to read. It encourages them to have a great sense of imagination near to the videos, making them curious about certain books which will in turn make them read these books.

Classroom discussions

After students have already gotten into the habit of reading books, they would like to discuss it with their peers, parents, or teachers. Sometimes the children love introducing new concepts and facts in a classroom that they have read in the books, and other times they would like their peers also to have a fun time by summarising the story in short for them. This makes others want to read the book too. Hence, classroom discussion is important not only for sharing the things learned from books but also for motivating other students also to read them. Because every child has a unique preference, discussing every unique preference will widen the area of knowledge for students.
